Hall has also been sidelined with a thigh issue but was on the bench for the Rotherham fixture earlier this week.

When asked about Hall ahead of the game, Boro boss Neil Warnock said: “Today before we go he’s going to play half a game, that depends on whether he will be involved or not.

“Ashley is going to play 60 minutes so we will have a look at that today in the friendly match so we will get more of an idea after that.”

Boro defender Dael Fry remains a doubt for the Norwich game after suffering a nasty cut below his eye against Blackburn last week.

“We don’t know on Dael. He’s been doing some training and his eye is a lot better,” added Warnock. “Again we’ll see how he is and we won’t take any risks.”

Boro could hand a debut to new signing Yannick Bolasie at Carrow Road after the Everton winger completed his loan move to the Riverside.

The wideman is unlikely to start due to his lack of game time but Warnock believes Bolasie will give the squad a much-needed boost.

Boro could also include full-back Darnell Fisher in the squad if they complete a deal in time from Preston.
