Middlesbrough’s new signing had impressed on his home debut against Brentford last weekend but was unavailable for the Teessiders’ 2-1 defeat at Derby.

Boro have now gone five games without a win after goals from Derby frontman Lee Gregory and Colin Kazin-Richards.

Neeskens Kebano pulled a goal back for Boro before half-time but the visitors struggled to build momentum after the break.

When asked about Bolasie after the match, Warnock said: “Yannick strained a hamstring with the last kick of the training session on Thursday. That’s the way it’s going at the moment, and things aren’t dropping for us either. It’s easy to feel sorry for yourself, but you’ve just got to get on with it.

“I don’t know really know quite how serious it is. I think he’s had a scan, but to be fair, I haven’t asked. I just know he’s out for a while.”

Boro were also missing defender Dael Fry (calf) and midfielder Marcus Tavernier (knee) and both remain doubts for Tuesday’s home game against Huddersfield.

“I don't think Dael, Tav or Yannick will be available on Tuesday,” added Warnock. “I'd normally tell you they've got a chance so I didn't give my team away but why worry?

“I knew yesterday that Yannick wouldn't play but I couldn't say anything. It's sods law. It's always your best players.

“At clubs like ours you can't do without three of your best players. Tav almost won the game on his own when we played Derby at our place. It is disappointing for a manager, but you just have to get on with it.”

Boro recorded just two shots on target against Derby despite the hosts dropping deeper in the second half.

“Once again, I didn’t think we were a threat,” admitted Warnock. “Since I’ve been here, in fact over the last few years, there’s not been enough threat up front.

“I thought last week if we’d had (Ivan) Toney we would have won the game, and I think if we’d had Kazim-Richards today we would have won the game too.”
