Harris was sacked by the Bluebirds this week after 15 months at the Cardiff City Stadium, with former Sunderland and Ireland boss Mick McCarthy set to take charge.

When asked about Harris ahead of Boro’s game against Blackburn this weekend, Warnock told BBC Tees: “I didn’t say too much while Neil Harris was there but I thought one or two of the comments he made when he first got the job were a little bit detrimental to me. ‘I’ve got to change the mindsets of these players that have been used to playing one particular way.’ What’s that winning?

“I thought it was a bit disrespectful if I’m honest.

“I’ve heard Mick McCarthy’s got the job so I hope he has, a big mate of mine. He’ll enjoy it coming back from Cyprus, not bad he’s had a six-week holiday there.”

Harris isn’t the first to take aim at Warnock’s style of play, yet the Boro boss takes satisfaction in proving people wrong.

“If I tell you throughout my career, if I could tell you everybody that has made mistakes about me and quoted wrong things about me, I could probably do my own book about that,” added Warnock.

“All these I’ll show them, it drives me on if I’m honest.

“Cardiff was very good for me because Cardiff were in a mess when I went there and we ended up going to the Premier League with a team that no one thought could do.

“I have great memories there with Mehmet Dalman who’s a super guy.

“But I wouldn’t be here at Middlesbrough if it wasn’t for Rotherham United, 14 games or whatever it was and that was a tremendous escape.

"I seem to only get the clubs who are in trouble and I think that’s probably the way I am and the type of management that I do but I do enjoy it.

"When I stand on the touchline and watch my team play like they did the other night. Wow! Am I proud when I see them lads moving it around and creating chances.”
