A club statement added: "The individual will not be named due to medical confidentiality, but we can confirm that it is a member of the training ground support staff.

"The person in question is currently asymptomatic and will now self-isolate, in line with protocol."

Sheffield Wednesday and Preston earlier confirmed they each had one employee among the nine people from six clubs who had tested positive out of 1,094 checks during a four-day period starting from Saturday.

A Boro statement read: “Middlesbrough Football Club can confirm that we returned no positive results from the latest round of testing.”

An EFL statement added: “Following the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1,094 players and club staff from the 24 Championship clubs were tested over the course of Saturday May 30, Sunday May 31, Monday June 1 and Tuesday June 2 with nine individuals testing positive from six clubs.

“Those players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities.”

The Championship is aiming to restart again on June 20 with Boro in a relegation battle, Jonathan Woodgate’s side are just two points above the drop zone.

Boro will be doing some training sessions at the Riverside to prepare for playing behind-closed-doors.

There is no testing programme underway in League One.
