The Boro midfielder was forced off during the weekend’s defeat by Blackburn after suffering the setback in the final ten minutes of the match.

"Tav is another slip on the grass, the pitches aren't great,” said Warnock when asked about Tavernier ahead of Boro’s meeting with Rotherham.

"It was the inside of his knee. He had a scan last night and we'll find out today but I don't expect to see him for a few weeks.”

Boro also lost defender Dael Fry against Rovers after the centre-back was kicked in the face and suffered a nasty cut below his eye.

“Dael's face isn't great, as you can imagine," added Warnock.

"But the swelling is definitely going down, we'll see how he is. We won't risk him if he isn't right.”

The Teessiders did welcome back striker Ashley Fletcher against Blackburn as the forward came off the bench after recovering from a lengthy hamstring injury.

"He looked rusty when he came on, as you'd expect," replied Warnock when asked about Fletcher.

"I don't think we can expect too much of him - we've got to persevere and try and get him back up to fitness however we can."

Warnock was also unsure if Anfernee Dijksteel would be available for the Rotherham game after missing the Blackburn match with a minor setback.
