Middlesbrough drop to eighth in the Championship ahead of Sheffield Wednesday clash as Reading and Stoke City pick up points

The Teessiders’ game against Rotherham was postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the Millers’ camp, yet nine second-tier games went ahead – with Norwich still set to face Watford.

Boro moved up to sixth in the table following a 4-1 win at Birmingham last weekend, their third consecutive victory.

Neil Warnock’s side have since dropped behind Reading, who beat Luton 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium, and Stoke, who played out a goalless draw at Coventry.

There are now six points between Boro and the automatic promotion places after Swansea move into the top two with a 2-0 win at QPR.

The Swans moved ahead of Bournemouth, whose game against Millwall was also postponed.

Elsewhere, Brentford climbed to fourth after coming from behind to win 3-2 at Cardiff.

Boro’s next opponents, Sheffield Wednesday, were held to 1-1 draw at Blackburn despite taking a first-half lead.
