At 1-0 down, the Boro boss brought on strikers Britt Assombalonga and Rudy Gestede alongside Ashley Fletcher and Lukas Nmecha to make it four strikers on the pitch.

As many pointed out, the side looked unbalanced and disjointed despite the attacking intentions.

Here are some of the responses from social media:

@Smithy_MFC84: Today’s a real low, but we’ve already seen how things can change in the blink of an eye. The unpredictable nature of this league doesn’t excuse him of culpability of course, but ally that with his inexperience & the multiple squad issues, he deserves to be cut some slack.

@TheEightball80: Today was horrendous. Zero tactically nouse from Woodgate and all his Plan B seems to be is shot strikers off the bench on and hope for the best.

@Smogonthetees: Luton have conceded 66 goals this season (SIXTY SIX) We have 4 strikers on the pitch at HOME Goals scored = Zero

@GraemeBandeira: Disgusting performance today from Boro. Probably the worst I have ever witnessed. We looked like a pub side struggling against a bunch of street fighters. All momentum lost since Spence, Coulson & Tav have been rested. Woody trying to accommodate too many bad players!

@guvpaul1: I can’t understand why he had 4 strikers on the pitch and left attacking players on the bench.

@leehusband86: I like woodgate and what he’s trying to do. As long as we don’t go down, which we won’t, let him make the mistakes he needs to.

@JoshMillward4: I admit I jumped on the bandwagon when we beat PNE & West Brom but both of them were in iffy form at the time and Christmas period is always a strange one for results but I think Woodgate is completely out of his depth! Substitutions where the worst I've seen in years!

@MFC_Brad: Today was awful and 10 of our 11 players need to hang their heads in shame. Only player exempt from that is Hayden Coulson. Only one who put in some effort and actually had a go.

@RobSc0tt: Stunning in game management from JW. Sending on two extra strikers to finish off the chances we weren't creating, while completely ignoring Tav, Morrison and Johnson

@RMESzN: Personally think Woodgate deserves next season to prove himself, however today completely unacceptable one of the worst performances i’ve since in a long time

@sis_insights: #Boro are fading into where I thought we were in early 2014 - a club without a spark, that needs a kick in the right direction. We got it later that year when AKBoro found their way. We are still waiting for WoodyBoro to find theirs.
