A couple of the Teessiders’ prized assets were linked with moves away from the Riverside in the summer – including first-choice goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

The Republic of Ireland international has been struggling with a thigh issue in recent weeks, yet speculation hasn’t stopped surrounding the keeper’s future.

Reports resurfaced over the weekend with the Sun claiming Randolph’s former side West Ham are interested in bringing the stopper back to London.

The Hammers have been struggling to find a replacement for the injured Lukasz Fabianski, yet it would still be a shock if Randolph returned to the club he left in 2017.

George Saville reveals Boro boost

In Randolph’s absence, Boro recorded a much-needed 1-0 win over Charlton at the Riverside on Saturday.

Midfielder George Saville scored the only goal of the game with just a minute on the clock, his first of the season, and spoke to the press after the game.

The Northern Ireland international praised young Boro defender Djed Spence following the full-back’s Championship debut, with Saville saying the teenager gave everyone a boost.

“It was lovely to start the game like that on a personal note and as a team,” said Saville when asked about his early goal.

“It kick started us in the game. It got us on the front foot and I felt we started the game with a real intensity.

“In that first half in particular, Djed came in at right wing-back, and it felt as though it gave the team a real lift. He’s fast, energetic and I saw that right across the team.”

Finally, Boro’s under-23 side are preparing for tonight’s Premier League 2, Division 2 clash at Aston Villa.
