Middlesbrough are reportedly in talks with Bristol City over a swap deal involving Britt Assombalonga and Famara Diedhiou.

Boro captain Assombalonga, 28, will be out of contract at the end of the season and has previously been linked with the Robins.

Diedhiou, 28, is in a similar position at City, with his current deal set to expire in the summer.

According to TeamTalk, talks have taken place about trading the two players with both parties reportedly keen on the proposal.

Boro boss Neil Warnock has said he hopes to make at least one more signing before Monday’s 11pm deadline and also admitted one or two players could leave the Riverside.

Woodgate set for new role

Elsewhere in the Championship, former Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate looks set for a new coaching role at Bournemouth.

According to the Telegraph’s John Percy, Woodgate will be appointed as the Cherries’ first-team coach on Monday, replacing Graeme Jones who has joined Newcastle’s backroom staff.

Woodgate has been out of work since leaving Boro in June but the former defender, who played for several clubs including Leeds, Newcastle, Real Madrid, Boro and Tottenham, is keen to return to the dugout.

Defender set to return to France

Finally, Aston Villa defender Frederic Guilbert looks likely to return to France before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The 26-year-old has been linked with several Championship clubs, including Boro, yet the Teessiders have since completed the signing of right-back Darnell Fisher from Preston.

According to reports, Guilbert has agreed to join French club Strasbourg on loan until the end of the season.
