The Teessiders have been tracking Fulham forward Aboubakar Kamara, who looks set to leave Craven Cottage and make way for former Sunderland striker Josh Maja, who could arrive on loan from Bordeaux.

Yet according to Football Insider, Kamara, 25, has turned down a move to Boro and is set to sign for French side Djion on loan instead.

Boro boss Neil Warnock was keen to sign another attacking player following the arrivals of Yannick Bolasie and full-back Darnell Fisher last week.

Despite the Karmara reports, the Teessiders are still believed to have other options, including former Cardiff winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, 27, who is a free agent after his contract was terminated in September.

There is also a chance that Patrick Roberts could leave the Riverside, with Derby County said to be interested in the Manchester City loanee.

The 23-year-old signed for Boro on a season-long loan deal in October but has made just four league starts this campaign.

Warnock has made Boro’s stance clear over the last few weeks, saying discussions have taken place with Roberts but no enquiries had been made.

The Boro boss is happy to keep the player and has challenged him to stay at the Riverside and fight for his place.

Yet according to the Telegraph’s John Percy, Derby have shown an interest in Roberts and are close to signing the Manchester City man on loan until the end of the season.
