The game at St Andrew’s proved to be a memorable one for midfielder Lewis Wing, who was making just his second league appearance of the season for Neil Warnock’s side.

Wing scored Boro’s fourth goal with a long-range effort, while his corner 11 minutes after half-time was turned into his own net by Blues keeper Neil Etheridge.

It has since been confirmed that Wing was awarded Boro’s third goal by referee Steve Martin, meaning the 25-year-old midfielder registered a brace at St Andrew’s.

Time change for Forest trip

After a run of nine games in 28 days, Boro will have at least a full week to recover for their next match.

It’s still unclear if the Teessiders’ Boxing Day game against Rotherham will go ahead after a Covid-19 outbreak in the Millers’ squad caused Saturday’s game against Derby to be postponed.

Boro will then face a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on December 29 before playing five league games in January.

Warnock’s side will travel to Nottingham Forest on January 20, and the game has now been brought forward to a 7pm kick-off time.

More Championship games called off

Finally, Millwall’s next two Championship games have been postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

The Lions were due to travel to Bournemouth on Boxing Day before a home game against Watford on December 29

The club has closed its Calmont Road training ground after an unspecified number of people contracted the virus.
