No professional football will take place in England until at least April 30 following the outbreak of COVID-19, while many clubs have suspended their training sessions.

Despite postponed fixtures, Boro continued their normal routine last week before more games were called off for health and safety reasons.

Head coach Jonathan Woodgate and his backroom staff will continue to access the situation and give players individual training programmes if they are given further time off.

Boro advance in FIFA 2020 tournament

During the extended break, many clubs are taking part in a FIFA 2020 tournament which has been organised by League Two club Leyton Orient.

Boro are being represented by gamer Danny Taylor who last night progressed to the second round of the competition with a 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Goals from Patrick Roberts, Ashley Fletcher and Britt Assombalonga secured the win for Boro.

Boro defender Anfernee Dijksteel is making progress following a lengthy knee injury.

The 23-year-old right-back hasn’t played for the senior side since November after limping off during a 1-0 win over Barnsley at the Riverside.

Dijksteel did play for Boro’s under-23 side against Newcastle Under-23s last month but suffered a further setback after the match.

Yet Dijksteel posted an encouraging message on social media on Monday, showing pictures of him in action with a timer emoji that had almost finished.
