Middlesbrough FC transfer news: Latest Darren Randolph reports as defender reacts to Tottenham speculation

Randolph, 32, looked set to leave the Riverside after a reported £4million fee had been agreed for the Republic of Ireland international.

However, it’s become apparent there have been issues with the player’s medical, with the stopper still recovering from a thigh injury.

West Ham’s goalkeeper issues deepened over the weekend after first-choice stopper Lukasz Fabianski suffered a hamstring injury during Friday’s 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United.

When asked about Randolph after the match, Moyes said: “At the moment he is carrying a bit of an injury he's had for several weeks and we have to make sure it has healed. That's where the delay is and I'm very hopeful.”

Other reports have suggested the Hammers are now considering alternatives for Randolph, with Football Insider claiming Preston goalkeeper Declan Rudd is a potential target.

West Ham have also been linked with Bournemouth stopper Asmir Begovic, yet the Bosnian now looks set to join AC Milan after flying to Italy to complete his medical.

Defender reacts to Tottenham speculation

One player who Boro will hope to keep hold of is teenage full-back Djed Spence.

The 19-year-old defender burst onto the scene last month after making his debut against Charlton and has impressed ever since.

Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate revealed on Saturday that negotiations have begun over a new long-term contract for Spence.

It came after reports that Tottenham were tracking the youngster, yet Spence says he isn’t getting carried away.

“Of course it is flattering to read that stuff. It is a good feeling,” said the defender when asked about the Tottenham links.

“But I just need to stay focused. I want to play well and stay focused and not let all that get to me.

“I’m just a young footballer and I need to keep doing what I have been doing.

“It has been a good feeling being in the team. I just want to keep going, stay in the team and stay unbeaten.”
