Middlesbrough FC transfer rumours: Aston Villa midfielder agrees to join rivals plus free agent striker attracting interest

Middlesbrough’s promotion rivals Swansea have agreed a deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane on loan until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has made just four Premier League appearances this campaign and was also linked with Boro after getting the green light to leave Villa Park.

According to Sky Sports, a number of Championship clubs were interested in Hourihane, including fellow promotion contenders Bournemouth.

A loan fee and other terms were agreed between Swansea and Villa on Tuesday.

Striker attracting interest

Another player who has previously been linked with Boro is former Blackpool striker Armand Gnanduillet.

The 28-year-old is a free agent after his spell with Turkish club Altay SK was cut short last month.

Boro were one of the clubs credited with interest in the forward back in the summer, yet manager Neil Warnock has admitted the Teessiders are unlikely to sign another striker in January.

According to Bristol Live, Bristol Rovers have tabled a contract offer to Gnanduillet who has interest from several clubs, including some in the Championship.

Cardiff complete right-back signing

Finally, Cardiff have completed the signing right-back Perry Ng from Crewe for an undisclosed fee.

The Bluebirds were one of several Championship clubs said to be interested in a loan move for Aston Villa full-back Frederic Guilbert, yet reports concerning the Frenchman have quertened over the last few days.

Boro and Bristol City were also linked with Guilbert, who looks likely to leave Villa Park after making just two appearances in the EFL Cup this season.
