With less than a month to go until the January transfer window, Middlesbrough will be eyeing up new signings to bolster their worryingly thin squad.

One area where the Teessiders don’t appear particularly short is in goal, despite an injury to first-choice shot-stopper Darren Randolph who is set to be sidelined for the next few weeks with a thigh issue.

Yet, according to Football Insider, Boro are one of several clubs chasing Northampton shot-stopper David Cornell.

Championship rivals Preston and League One promotion chasers Ipswich have also been credited with interest in the 28-year-old who will see his contract expire in the summer.

Cornell has been in fine form this season and has helped Northampton climb to sixth in League Two.

Another player who has been linked with Boro in recent months is in-form Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove.

A move to the Riverside appears to be looking less though, following reports the 23-year-old would cost a substantial £4million.

According to the Scottish Sun, new Stoke boss Michael O’Neill is targeting Cosgrove who has scored nine goals in 14 SPL appearances this season.

The report claims Italian giants Lazio have also watched the frontman.

Bristol City would consider Nketiah move

Back in the summer, Boro were one of several clubs who were tracking Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah before his loan move to Leeds United.

But despite some impressive performances off the bench, the 20-year-old hasn’t been a regular starter at Elland Road this season, with Patrick Bamford often getting the nod instead.

There have been suggestions that Arsenal could recall Nketiah due to his lack of game time, and plenty of Championship clubs would certainly be interested.

Bristol City have also been keeping a close eye on the striker and would be keen should he become available.

"He’s a very talented player,” said Robins chief executive Mark Ashton.

"Should he become available he would be someone we would definitely consider if the fit was right and we were able to do it.

"It would be remiss of us to have someone like him as the only option."
