Boro boss Neil Warnock said on Tuesday there could be another signing this week, but negotiations are still ongoing as the Teessiders look to bolster their squad.

At the end of last season Warnock said he was looking to strengthen the spine of his team to give the side more steel through the centre of the pitch.

Several names have been linked with a move to the Riverside over the last week, with Tottenham midfielder Luke Amos reportedly on Boro’s radar.

According to The Athletic, the 23-year-old will be allowed to leave Spurs after coming through the club’s academy and a handful of loan moves.

After spells at Southend United and Stevenage, Amos made 34 Championship appearances for QPR last season, when he was primarily used as a defensive midfielder by Mark Warburton.

It’s been claimed Boro and Rangers are now battling for the midfielder’s signature, as Amos has just one year left on his Spurs contract.

Another player who could be on the move this summer is former Boro striker Lukas Nmecha, with the Daily Mail reporting Scotish giants Celtic are pondering a loan move for the Manchester City frontman.

Nmecha, 21, struggled during last season’s loan spell at the Riverside, failing to score in his 13 appearances for Boro.

Celtic are also said to have opened talks with former Scotland striker Steven Fletcher over a one-year deal at Parkhead after a failed attempt to sign Peterborough forward Ivan Toney.

Toney has been loosely linked with a move to Boro over the last 12 months, yet Posh will demand a sizable fee for a player who scored 24 League One goals last term.

Another player who was briefly linked with the Teessiders is former Charlton striker Lyle Taylor who remains a free agent after leaving The Valley.

It had been claimed that Celtic were also interested in the 30-year-old, yet the Sun have claimed there is no interest from the Hoops.
