Middlesbrough midfielder signs two-year deal after first-team experiences

Teenage midfielder Hayden Hackney has signed a new two-year contract at Middlesbrough.

The 18-year-old is highly rated at Rockliffe and has been a regular for the club’s under-23 side for the last two seasons.

After being named on the bench by Jonathan Woodgate for a first-team game against Barnsley during the 2019/20 season, Hackney made his senior debut for the Teessiders at Brentford in January's FA Cup tie, where he played the full 90 minutes.

Hackney was also part of the first-team set-up during the final few weeks of the 2020/21 campaign and came off the bench during Boro’s final league game against Wycombe in May.

Born in Redcar, Hackney joined Boro's Academy at under-10s level and has come through the ranks on Teesside.

Several Boro youngsters have signed new deals at the club in recent weeks, including Josh Wells, Isiah Cornet, Jack Robinson, Cain Sykes, Max Metcalfe and Jeremy Sivi.
