Middlesbrough reveal training ground plans following coronavirus suspension

Middlesbrough will continue to train at Rockliffe as normal after the EFL season was suspended due to COVID-19.

Professional football won’t take place in the UK until at least April 3, yet many believe the postponement will be extended.

Before last week’s announcement, Boro had taken extra precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, which included stopping public appearances and restricting access to the club’s training ground.

Jonathan Woodgate’s pre-match press conference was also held at the Riverside last week, rather than it’s usual location at Rockliffe.

“We’re following the advice of the government and the football authorities,” Woodgate told the club’s website. “We have an excellent medical team here as well who will provide guidance.

“Our plan is to work as normal in terms of training unless we’re told otherwise.”

Boro are scheduled to host QPR on April 4, with the EFL set to provide a further update following a board meeting this week.

“It’s not for us to speculate about what will happen and what won’t happen in terms of resuming the season,” Woodgate added.

“The most important thing in all this is people’s health and we will be guided by people who know better than us.”

Woodgate confirmed last week that winger Patrick Roberts and centre-back Dael Fry are both back in training after injury lay-offs.

Defenders Daniel Ayala and George Friend are making progress while Anfernee Dijksteel is also being monitored after suffering a recurrence of his knee injury.
