Middlesbrough have completed two loan signings on the final day of the transfer window - while a deal to re-sign Albert Adomah collapsed.

George Saville and Danny Batth will both join Tony Pulis' sides on season-long loan deals from Millwall and Wolves respectively.

Millwall have confirmed Saville, 25, will sign for Boro permanently at the start of January 2019, and the undisclosed fee to be received will be a club record for the Lions.

The central midfielder played regularly in the Championship for Neil Harris' side last campaign, and has been capped five times by Northern Ireland.

His signing should give Boro plenty of options, as Saville played in different positions for his former side Wolves, where he played left-back and in the number 10 position.

Boro have also bolstered their defensive ranks with the addition of central defender Batth.

Pulis' side have looked strong at the back this campaign, with Daniel Ayala, Aden Flint and Dael Fry playing as a back three.

Even so, the squad would have been short of replacements if one became unavailable.

Batth, 27, will certainly bring plenty of experience, having clocked up 289 career appearances while winning promotion to the Premier League with Wolves last season.

The defender was still the captain at Molineux but has seen his game time reduced following the arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo.

It was also well documented that Pulis was keen to add another winger to his squad, hence the late move for Adomah from Aston Villa.

But, according to reports the two clubs were unable to agree a deal.

Boro did allow Belgian midfielder Julien De Sart to return to his homeland to join KV Kortrijk on a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old made just three appearances for the first team after arriving in January 2016, while also spending time on loan at Derby and Belgian club Zulte Wagarem.

Ashley Fletcher and Marvin Johnson were also linked with moves away from the Riverside and Johnson completed a late move to Sheffield United on a season-long loan.
