Middlesbrough transfer news: Boro set to miss out on free agent striker, Stoke City target eyes EFL move

Middlesbrough are back in Championship action this weekend, where they'll be looking to reignite their push for the play-offs against relegation-battling Derby County.

The last time the two sides met, back in Boro powered to a 3-0 win at the Riverside Stadium, with the likes of Britt Assombalonga and Marvin Johnson getting on the scoresheet.

A win for Neil Warnock's side could see them move to within just two points of sixth place, in a tightly-packed top-half of the table.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth caretaker manager Jonathan Woodgate has been discussing the influence of Burnley boss Sean Dyche when he was managing Middlesbrough.

Woodgate revealed: "I’ve never managed against him, but on the phone he was always there for me when I was manager with Middlesbrough.

"He’d always give me advice, always speak to me on the phone, pick the phone up whenever. There was a time when Ben Gibson came to Middlesbrough last season and I spoke to him often on the phone as well. So he’s a really good guy, offered me great advice when I was managing."
