Middlesbrough transfer rumours: Boro target Jordan Jones tipped for exit, Pundit 'shocked' by potential Charlie Wyke raid

Middlesbrough target Jordan Jones could be on his way out of Rangers this summer, according to former Ibrox defender Alan Hutton.

The winger made a temporary switch to League One promotion hopefuls Sunderland in January as he looked to secure greater first team opportunities, and so far, his move has been more than justified.

Nine goals have yielded two goals and three assists for Lee Johnson’s men, and his arrival has helped the Black Cats to move into a promising position in their hunt to return to the Championship.

Off the back of his eye-catching displays in the third tier, several Championship clubs have been credited with an interest in him going into the summer transfer window.

Boro are one of them, but Neil Warnock’s men could face competition from the likes of Barnsley, Cardiff City, and Stoke City.

Promisingly, Hutton is of the opinion that he is likely to leave the Gers on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: "I just feel his time at Rangers, he’s had enough opportunities.

"It’s not quite worked out.

"The player has to think of himself as well – he obviously wasn’t happy when he was there.”

Despite being a Northern Ireland international, Jones was born in Redcar and started his career with on Teesside.

The wide man made just one senior appearance for Boro before leaving for Kilmarnock in 2016, however.

Elsewhere, Kevin Phillips has admitted that a number of clubs could be interested signing Sunderland’s Charlie Wyke this summer.

Like Jones, the frontman has been an integral part of the Black Cats’ upturn in fortunes in recent months, and like Jones, Boro are said to be keen on him.

Football League World suggest that Warnock's men are eager to lure the in-form striker to the Riverside, with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.

But his future with Sunderland could depend on whether or not Lee Johnson’s men can secure promotion, according to former Mackem hero Phillips.

He told Football Insider: “As much as the Mackems do not want to hear it, a few Championship clubs will be sniffing around.

“It is just natural for a striker that has scored as many goals as he has. There will always be interest in a striker that has scored that amount of goals. I can speak from experience because that first season, in which I scored 35 goals, there was interest in myself.

“I would be amazed if Charlie even thought about leaving Sunderland if they got into the Championship.

“The supporters should be back in the Stadium of Light and at no other club will you be playing in front of 35,000 fans. I certainly would not be looking to move on.

“The club will be trying to tie him down. Get him on board, it is as simple as that.

“I would be shocked if Wyke wanted to leave.”

Wyke is currently the top scorer in League One, and has 26 goals in all competitions, scoring at a rate of one every 114 minutes.
