Boro boss Neil Warnock was asked about the player last week and cooled speculation

“I don’t want to be disrespectful to Jack, and I’m sure he’s a good player, but I’ve not seen anything of him. There are others I’m looking at,” said Warnock.

The 20-year-old frontman was due to stay with The Dons until the end of the season but returned to Boro on Wednesday.

Walker has scored five goals in 17 appearances this season but started just five games in League One.

Speaking to the club’s website, Martin said: “Ste has worked really hard during his time with us but unfortunately he’s just not been able to get the minutes he would have liked. For his own development, all parties agreed it was best that he went back to Middlesbrough.

“He has helped us, for sure, in the first half of this season and he goes with our thanks and best wishes.”

Attacker signs for Huddersfield

Finally, Huddersfield have completed the signing of attacker Sorba Thomas for an undisclosed fee from National League side Boreham Wood.

Several clubs, including Portsmouth, Sunderland, Charlton and QPR, were credited with interest in the 21-year-old while Boro were loosely linked.

Huddersfield’s Head of Football Operations Leigh Bromby told the club’s website: “We’re very happy to complete the signing of Sorba today, as there has been a lot of interest in him dating back to the summer window.

“Sorba has a lot of potential and many qualities that will fit the way we play.”
