Boro boss Neil Warnock has previously said he wants to add a fourth striker to his squad.

We are also still waiting to find out the exact extent of Ashley Fletcher’s hamstring injury, which is said to be worse than first thought.

If Fletcher is sidelined for a lengthy period of time, Boro may look to bring in another forward to challenge Britt Assombalonga and Chuba Akpom.

According to TeamTalk, the Teessiders are taking a keen interest in Stoke striker Lee Gregory, who could be allowed to leave the Bet365 Stadium.

The report claims Sheffield Wednesday are leading the chase to sign the 32-year-old, though, with Owls boss Garry Monk eager to bolster his forward line.

Danny Rose deal dismissed

Many were surprised and somewhat skeptical when Boro were credited with interest in Tottenham left-back Danny Rose earlier this week.

The 30-year-old defender is surplus to requirements at Spurs and can only move to the Championship before Friday’s deadline.

According to the Northern Echo, Boro won’t be signing Rose but have held talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for defender Baba Rahman.

Aynsley Pears latest

While Boro are looking to strengthen in certain positions, there may also be outgoings at the Riverside.

Earlier in the window, it emerged that Blackburn were interested in goalkeeper Aynsley Pears, who now appears to be third-choice between the sticks following the arrival of Marcus Bettinelli from Fulham.

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray has said Rovers are still looking to sign two or three players before the deadline, including another keeper.

According to Rovers reporter Rich Sharpe from the Lancashire Telegraph, Blackburn are looking to sign Pears on a permanent deal which would allow young stopper Andy Fisher to leave Ewood Park on loan.
