Britt Assombalonga also picked up an ankle issue in midweek but Woodgate is hopeful the striker will be available.

On Assombalonga, Woodgate said: “He didn’t train the last two days and he didn’t train today so I’ll have to see how he is.”

Boro will welcome back midfielder George Saville from suspension while Marvin Johnson is the seventh player who is definitely unavailable following his red card against Hull.
