The winger has returned from a long-term injury after rupturing his cruciate knee ligament at Bournemouth in the Championship last March.

Carayol played the best part of an hour last month in Boro’s £-0 Premier Reserve League defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion and he has been pencilled in to play tonight at Billingham Synthonia.

The 26-year-old will be part of Paul Jenkins’s youthful Boro side at Central Avenue for this intriguing quarter-final tie.

Boro will be roared on by over 1,200 fans at Blackpool in the Sky Bet Championship tonight but those not travelling to Bloomfield Road could be tempted by tonight’s North Riding derby at Synners.

Marske United are third in the EBAC Northern League, just two points behind leaders West Auckland with three games in hand, so they are going to prove formidable opposition for a young team.

Boro could well feature Hartlepool-born teenagers Bryn Morris and Harry Chapman.

England U19 skipper Morris started in the last Boro U21 game, at Brighton, where Chapman came on for Carayol and displayed much promise.
