Neil Warnock explains Marcus Browne injury setback after FA Cup defeat at Brentford

The Boro winger was enjoying a lively first half before dislocating his knee cap on the stroke of half time as the Teessiders suffered a 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup third round.

Neil Warnock was forced to name a weakened side after his squad were hit by a Covid-19 outbreak earlier in the week but were unfortunate to lose at the Brentford Community Stadium.

After falling behind to Halil Dervisoglu's first-half opener, Sam Folarin, Browne’s replacement, drew Boro level shortly after half-time.

Saman Ghoddos then scored the winner for Brentford which sent the Bees through to the fourth round.

When asked about Browne’s injury after the match, Warnock said: “We are hoping it’s not as bad as we thought. His knee cap came out and went back in so it depends on the scan on Monday.

“If there’s no other damage it’s not as bad as we thought but if there is other damage.

“I really felt sorry for him because he just worked hard to get himself back fit and I thought he looked sharp tonight.

“I just said to him there are worse things in life so you’ll get back again.

On the game, Warnock added: “I thought the young lads did well.

“Hayden (Hackney) did well in midfield for his first game but must learn, the winning goal came from him leaving his man but that’s the difference between the 23s and the first team.”
