Boro were beaten 2-1 at Pride Park and have now gone five games without a win ahead of their meeting with Huddersfield at the Riverside.

McNair was moved further forward in the second half as defender Grant Hall came on to make his return from injury.

When asked about the move to change McNair’s position, Warnock said: “It’s nice to know that’s available really but I just thought I wanted to get Grant on the pitch as well.

“I do love him at the back, especially when Dael (Fry) is fit, but at the moment you just don’t know who you are going to lose next and we are a bit thin in midfield.”

Warnock admitted after the Derby game that his side never looked like scoring.

When asked what he can change to solve the issue, he added: “You have to look at everything.

“I just think you have to look around at what there is and we’ve all been there sometimes when you are leaking goals, how can we help the defence, or how can we create more goals.

“It’s a mixture of everything, what you have to do is when you lose three or four good players you have to work out with what we’ve got, how can we give the opponents more to do.

“That’s what I thought on Saturday, on the bus on the way back, I thought how am I going to give Huddersfield more problems than what we gave Derby, so I’ve got to try certain things.”
