Speaking to the club’s website, the Boro boss said: “You look at it and say it’s as tough a start as you can have, but we all know what the Championship is like and every game is tough.

“I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully we’ll get a few more new signings in and we’ll be ready to go.”

Shrewsbury fixture change

Boro’s season will actually start in two weeks' time when they face League One club Shrewsbury in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Finally, new signing Grant Hall can’t wait to make his Boro debut despite what looks like a tough start to the season.

“It’ll be a good gauge of where we’re at playing against two teams who have just come down from the Premier League.

“It’s like I always say though, there’s no easy games in the Championship. Whether you’re playing Watford or Wycombe you know you will have a tough game. That’s how this league is.”

He added: “I’ve settled in really quickly. The club and the boys have really helped, and moving in was ideal because I can focus on playing and look forward to the season starting.”
