Boro were beaten 3-0 by Rotherham at the Riverside after goals from Matt Crooks, Michael Smith and substitute Ryan Giles, highlighting the Teessiders lack of options after a handful of injury setbacks.

Warnock remains keen to sign another couple of attacking players, particularly in wide areas, and believes Bolasie, who Boro almost signed during the last transfer window, will give the team a boost.

“He was going to go to Turkey and I just said come and enjoy yourself for a couple of months,” said Warnock when asked about Bolasie after the Rotherham defeat.

“He does owe me because I did well for him at Crystal Palace and he’s looking forward to it I think. Hopefully it will be done in the next 24 hours.”

“I’m hoping we can even bring another one in before the weekend, I’m hoping we can get another couple before the window closes.

“We’ve known all along that if we lost two or three players we’d struggle but all credit to the lads, they’ve done really well this season so I’m not going to knock them tonight.”

Bolasie hasn’t played for Everton this season so is unlikely to start at Norwich if the deal is completed in time.

"I think he’s a bit off fitness-wise so I’d rather give him another week,” added Warnock.

"I think we just have to give him a full week in training and if he’s not 100 per cent I’d rather just give him half an hour but he’ll be involved.”
