The Boro boss, 72, signed a short-term deal until the end of the season at the Riverside but hasn’t yet committed to the next campaign.

"I'm having a chat with Steve next week, we’ve always planned to meet up next week for a chat,” said Warnock when asked about his future. “That is about everything in general so I’m sure we’ll talk about things then.”

Warnock is preparing to face his former side Cardiff this weekend, with the Bluebirds in fine form following six straight victories.

Boro will have to manage without Ashley Fletcher, who limped off against Bristol City last time out and is set to be sidelined for a couple of weeks.

“He won’t play, I would imagine he will be two to three weeks,” said Warnock when asked about Fletcher.

Marcus Tavernier and Yannick Bolasie are also doubts for the game but have returned to training following injury setbacks.

“Bolasie trained really well yesterday, we are going to have a meeting with him today to see how he’s feeling,” said Warnock when asked about the pair. “If you looked at him yesterday in training, deary me. Apparently he’s a week away at the moment.

“Tav trained yesterday as well so they are getting better but with so many games coming up you can’t risk certain players.”

Despite their defeat by Bristol City, Boro are just three points behind Cardiff who occupy the final play-off position.
