Warnock, who took charge with eight games to go, successfully led Boro to Championship safety and now he is aiming to put his mark on the squad.

The veteran manager is enjoying a short break in Cornwall but the hard work continues to enable Boro to be in the best possible position to move quickly in the transfer market.

Warnock has already identified his targets following an in-depth chat with the Boro owner Steve Gibson last week.

Warnock said: "Neil [Bausor] is working really hard to try and get me some of my targets.

"I've already given him three or four names. I wish we could sign them sooner rather than later,” he told Teesside Live.

He added: "There are players out of contract who will leave, players with one year left depending on whether we want them to stay or go, I'll be talking to them.

"There will be values as well. Also, one or two clubs looking at our good youngsters so you just don't know what will come up.

"I''m trying to look at everything that might happen and give ourselves the best chance, we don't want to be in that position at the bottom again."

Warnock met with Gibson the day after Boro’s victory at Sheffield Wednesday, the win confirming their status as a Championship club.

He added: “Steve asked me for a true appraisal of everything and that’s what I did."
