The 27-year-old scored his second league goal of the season as the Owls were held to a 1-1 draw at Blackburn – despite taking a first-half lead.

Reach was forced off with eight minutes to go at Ewood Park, with the extent of the setback still unclear.

Wednesday defender Joost van Aken also missed the match and will be a doubt for the Owls’ meeting with Boro on Tuesday.

After the game, Wednesday boss Tony Pulis said: “Joost hurt his groin in training on Thursday and I didn't think he was going to be fit.

"He had an x-ray and it showed certain fibres that had been pulled away but he looked fine today up until the last couple of minutes before we brought him off.

“Adam has done his hamstring so we will have to see what happens there.

“It has been difficult at times.”

Wednesday remain in the relegation zone and have won just once since Pulis took charge in November.

Boro experience served me well says Orta

Middlesbrough’s former head of European recruitment Victor Orta says his time at the Riverside was a valuable learning experience.

Orta joined Boro during the 2015/16 season, when Aitor Karanka was in charge of the Teessiders, but departed 17 months later following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Since then, Orta has become director of football at Leeds United, where he helped the Whites win promotion from the Championship last season.

Speaking to Spanish daily AS, Orta said: “I was in the mood for an experience in England.

“The season I arrived we [Boro] got promoted to the Premier League, I arrived in January with what little reputation I had.

“I met Karanka, who was the first to teach me the secrets of English football. I soaked up everything.

“The following year we were relegated, but it served me well for this second experience at Leeds.

“I made many mistakes that I have learned from.“

West Brom winger urged to return home

Finally, Boro are one of a few Championship clubs who have been linked with West Brom winger Kamil Grosicki.

The Polish international has made just one Premier League appearance all season and was close to joining Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day in October – yet a deal wasn’t completed in time.

Grosicki, who played for Polish champions Legia Warsaw earlier in his career, has been advised to leave West Brom by Poland manager Jerzy Brzeczek.

And one of Grosicki’s former team-mates at Warsaw, Jakub Wawrzyniak, believes the playmaker should return to Poland in January.

"If we could get him back now, it would be a brilliant move,” Wawrzyniak told Polish outlet Przegląd Sportowy.

“And for Grosicki, who hardly plays in the Premier League, and who wants to go to Euros. This player in form is the number one winger of the Polish national team, so Legia would also gain a lot.”
