Woodgate was appointed Bournemouth’s new first-team coach this week, replacing Graeme Jones who went to Newcastle, and was in the dugout for the Cherries’ 2-1 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday.

Bournemouth are sixth in the Championship table, two points ahead of Boro, but have lost their last four league games.

When announcing Woodgate would take charge of the Birmingham match, a club statement read: “This decision has been taken while the club’s board of directors identify and conduct full and thorough due diligence on suitable external candidates ahead of an interview process, with the aim of confirming a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible.”
