Many players will see their current deals expire at the end of June which could be problematic if the 2019/20 campaign runs deep into the summer months. Our Middlesbrough writer Joe Nicholson has picked out nine Championship players whose deals are set to expire and could attract interest:
1. Lyle Taylor (Charlton)
Charlton's return to the Championship started emphatically as Taylor scored five goals in the Addicks' first six league games. The striker's knee injury coincided with his side's slide down the table and the 29-year-old has shown he's more than capable at this level. Photo: James Chance
2. Alex Mowatt (Barnsley)
The Leeds United academy product has been a shining light in a struggling Barnsley side this season, contributing with three Championship goals and seven assists from the centre of midfield. Mowatt, 25, ran the game when Boro visited Oakwell in February as the Tykes claimed a 1-0 win. Photo: Lewis Storey
3. Niclas Eliasson (Bristol City)
The pacey winger produced a man of the match display during a 2-2 draw with Boro at Ashton Gate earlier in the season. At 24, Eliasson's best days are still ahead of him. Photo: Catherine Ivill
4. Henrik Dalsgaard (Brentford)
As well as having a potent forward line, Brentford also have the second best defensive record in the Championship this season. Vice-captain Dalsgaard has been a key part of the Bees' backline, switching from centre-back to right-back throughout the campaign. Photo: Alex Davidson
