Boro have are in negotiations over several transfer targets but have so far only brought in defender Grant Hall.
Yet plenty of players are still without a club after seeing their contracts expire. We’ve picked out nine wingers who are currently free agents – scroll down and flick through our gallery to see them:
1. Elias Kachunga
A versatile attacker who played regularly for Huddersfield in the Championship last season. The 28-year-old scored three goals and provided five assists in 36 league appearances for the Terriers during the 2019/20 campaign. Photo: Lewis Storey
2. Marcus Maddison
It's been a tough year for the 26-year-old who joined Hull on loan in January and has since seen his contract at Peterborough expire. Maddison was in fine form for Posh before the move, scoring nine goals and providing six assists in 22 League One appearances. Photo: Alex Pantling
3. Andre Green
Still only 22, the forward was released by Aston Villa at the end of last season. He has Championship experience after loan spells with Preston and Charlton last term and looked threatening during Boro's 1-0 win at The Valley in March. Photo: Gareth Copley
4. Marc Pugh
Was described as a ‘fantastic professional’ by QPR boss Mark Warburton when it was announced Pugh would leave the club in June. Pugh was still a valuable member of the squad last season, making 27 Championship appearances and has also won promotion from the Championship with Bournemouth. Photo: Andrew Redington
