The Boro boss is still hopeful the club can sign one or two more players before the end of the transfer window but has admitted there will be financial restrictions.
We’ve picked out nine Premier League players who could be available on loan before the end of the window – scroll down and flick through the pages to see the full list:
5. Jack Clarke (Tottenham)
A player who was linked with Boro in January but instead joined QPR on loan. Despite his potential it seems unlikely the 19-year-old wideman will break into Spurs' first team this season so another loan move may suit him. Photo: Getty Images
6. Emile Smith Rowe (Arsenal)
Following a loan move to Huddersfield in January, the 20-year-old made playmaker 19 league appearances for the Terriers and helped them stay in the Championship. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of the player who can play as a No.8 or a No.10. Photo: David Price
7. Timothy Fosu-Mensah (Manchester United)
After Premier League loan spells with Crystal Palace and Fulham, the versatile defender endured a rotten season with injuries last season. He returned at the end of the campaign and featured in United's last three Premier League games. Even so the 22-year-old may want to gain some more regular game time to regain his match sharpness. 8. Sepp van den Berg (Liverpool)
Boro were linked with Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips a few weeks ago, yet an injury seems to have ended that prospect. Van den Berg, 19, is another centre-back who the Reds will be looking to loan out to gain more first-team exposure. Photo: John Powell
