After signing a short-term deal at Boro following his release from Sunderland, Watmore has caught the eye of other Championship sides after scoring twice in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Millwall.

That took the 26-year-old’s tally to four goals in just six appearances for Warnock’s side.

Indeed, Warnock wishes to tie down Duncan Watmore on a new deal beyond January with rivals said to be circling.

The decision to sign Watmore in the summer has been praised by former striker turned pundit Dean Ashton.

“After having a bit of a wobble, it was a great start from Middlesbrough,” he said on Quest’s EFL highlights show. “And Duncan Watmore, I just think it was always gonna take a manager like Neil Warnock to take a chance on him.”

“He was an under-21 international with Jack Grealish, big things were thought of him and then horrible injuries hampered his career.”

“But Warnock has took a chance on him, maybe he has to nurse him through training sessions, but he’s clearly getting the best out of a player who has NOT lost his ability through injuries”

On his performance against Millwall, Warnock said: “Duncan took his goals well. The second is one of a typical poacher.

“Good luck to him. He's a superb lad to work with.”

Upon making the move to Teesside, Watmore revealed he had rejected several offers from other clubs to link-up with Warnock back in November.
