“We need pace, be it wide or down the middle and we will look to strengthen in that area,” said the Pools boss in the build up to today’s League Two match with Stevenage

Right-footed Jones, who was born in Middlesbrough and lives in Redcar, has represented Northern Ireland U17 and been named in U19 squads, as his father was born in Belfast.

He made his Boro first-team debut as a substitute in the 4-1 FA Cup third round win over Hastings in January 2013. A midfielder or striker, he is described by Boro Academy chief Dave Parnaby as a “very exciting, individual-type of player”.

Trialist Nelson-Addy, a 22-year-old midfielder from Conference North side Brackley Town, has been training at Maiden Castle this week and he starred for the club’s reserves in midweek.

Jones has been handed the number 27 shirt at the Vic and is likely to feature today, subject to Football League approval.
