The 29-year-old has been managing a hamstring injury in recent weeks and hasn’t been in the squad for Boro’s last four matches.

Boro only named eight substitutes during Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Derby and Warnock was asked about Morsy after the game.

“Sam is alright, I’ve just got to curb him a little bit,” said Warnock.

“He said he was alright last week and then just said he felt it with the last sprint so I would like him on the bench if I could on Saturday, but the physios are a little bit cautious as well.

“We are going to see what he does tomorrow, see if he can do a little bit more and have a sprint on Friday because I don’t want him to have a sprint and pull up again.”

Defender Grant Hall was also absent from the matchday squad against the Rams after recovering from a calf injury.

“Grant has had a bit of a setback and we’ll have more news on Friday,” added Warnock.

Warnock made three changes to his side against Derby as playmaker Patrick Roberts was recalled to the starting XI.

The Manchester City loanee was withdrawn in the second half as Warnock looked to shore things up in midfield.

“I thought he did alright, he tired,” said Warnock when asked about Roberts.

“In the second half when they changed the system, that's why it's difficult to get him in at times, their midfield players were running past him.”
