Fox will be a free agent in the summer unless the 26-year-old pens a new deal.

A host of Championship clubs have been credited with a strong interest in the defender including Boro, Derby County, West Brom and Nottingham Forest.

All football is currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic but that hasn’t stopped the transfer speculation, with Boro in need of strengthening at the back this summer.

When quizzed about the future of the Sheffield Wednesday left-back, coach Lee Bullen told our sister title Sheffield Star he hopes Morgan - and former Sunderland striker striker Steven Fletcher – will both commit their futures to the club.

He said: “I think both lads are really happy and their families are really happy, so we are very, very confident that something can be done.

“But ultimately, until something is signed, you just never know.

“You never know who could come out of the woodwork and offer them something that’s out of this world.

“Talks are positive and well down the road.

“Both lads have had fantastic seasons.

“Obviously, that’s in part down to themselves but it’s also in no small part down to the club supporting them.”

There is no date yet set for when football will be able to resume with all players training alone at home in the interim period.
