It has been known for some time that striker duo Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher will both leave the club this summer following the end of their four-year contracts.

It’s also been confirmed that goalkeeper Jordan Archer Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Marvin Johnson won’t be offered new deals.

Here’s how some fans reacted on social media:

@MichaelTG91: Surprised about Marvin Johnson but we have to trust that NW knows what he’s doing.

@Robtheborofan: Let’s just see who Neil Warnock brings in.... I hope the recruitment team don’t mess it up and let him down. There are some decent frees out there that could make things interesting..

@4TheLoveOfBoro: Really thought Neil would keep Johnson. Very surprised. However, I do feel this could bode well. After all we do need more quality in the wide areas. Johnson is a good steady pro but there’s certainly better out there. After all it does free up the wage bill to bring better in.

@smoggyontour86: Marvin Johnson, a good squad player, wasn’t good enough to stay in the team and wasn’t bad enough to be left out. Sums him up for me. Worked hard, had a decent cross on him. Maybe he wanted to leave.

@Smithy_MFC84: Not surprised to see NML move on, but thought Archer would’ve been offered terms given he was put in for the remaining weeks of the season. However, I’m majorly surprised to see Johnson move on. He’s proved more than a useful squad player, his stats last season were decent

@tom_muldowney: I can see why people are puzzled as to why we're letting Johnson go, but think about it from the player's perspective - He's 30 years old, probably has 3/4 years left. I imagine he probably wants to be somewhere where he starts if fit. Solid player, but we need to look at better.

@jess_dalts: Very surprised at Johnson going, but hopefully we’re going to have a good summer of recruitment.

@j_weatherhead7: Don’t rate Johnson, don’t get why people are upset. Right decisions all round.

@wilko_wilkos: I’m surprised with Johnson and Mendez, I thought both would have signed again. Hopefully some good signings are coming in! UTB
