Speaking to Boro’s website, Howson, who came through the ranks at Leeds, said: “I’m really pleased to sign on for longer.
“There’s been ups and downs while I’ve been here, but at the moment it’s going well and when you’re wanted somewhere it’s really nice to stay longer.”
Howson has started every league game for Boro this season after being moved back into central midfield by Warnock.

“We’re only through a small part of the season. We have to keep focused and keep doing the things that we’ve been doing.”
The news comes after Boro defender Anfernee Dijksteel signed a new deal at the Riverside last week, while Warnock has said Boro are looking to complete more contract negotiations in the near future.
On Howson, Warnock said: “I’m just delighted. It’s another step in the right direction for the club. Jonny has had an outstanding time since I’ve been here.

“I only see him getting better in the next couple of years so it’s great for the club that he’s put pen to paper.”
Boro are back in action on Wednesday when they’ll host Derby at the Riverside.
