Neil Warnock is keen to bring in at least one more player before Friday’s 5pm deadline, with defensive reinforcements the priority.

Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman has been linked with a loan move to the Riverside, while Warnock may also be able to bolster his attacking options.

Boro have been credited with interest in Everton’s Yannick Bolasie, while Ashley Fletcher’s hamstring injury has left the Teessiders light up front.

Outgoings are also possible at the Riverside, with Blackburn still interested in goalkeeper Aynsley Pears.

Boro also had plans for some of their younger players, the likes of Nathan Wood and Sam Folarin, to leave on loan and gain more first-team experience, yet that will depend on who comes in.

But if Boro want any potential new signing to be available for the Reading match, they will have to ensure that all the necessary paperwork is lodged with the EFL no later than Noon today – for this is the registration deadline for players to be eligible for Saturday’s games.

It’s important to note that players can still be announced by the club after Noon, but their paperwork must be approved by that cut-off point.

Last month, Marcus Bettinelli wasn’t announced until Thursday evening but the paperwork was completed in time for him to play at Watford the following day.

Should any potential signing not be registered in time, then they could play against Bristol City on Tuesday, October 20.
