Subject to formal ratification, clubs will be able to buy and sell players from Monday July 27, yet players registered before the Championship play-offs won’t be able to play until the start of the 2020/21 season.

Middlesbrough and their league rivals will be able to trade with clubs abroad until 11pm Monday October 5, while an agreement has been reached with the Premier League to extend transfers among English clubs.

There will be a two-week extension for clubs in England to sign and sell players domestically, which will run until 5pm on Friday October 16.

Boro took a huge step to preserving their Championship status after Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Reading, though they are not quite mathematically safe.

It remains unclear how much clubs will be able to spend following the coronavirus pandemic.
