Marvin Johnson came off the bench to score the only goal of the game nine minutes from time, and there were plenty of impressive displays from the men in red.

Teenage centre-back Nathan Wood, 18, made his first league start for Boro and was excellent in the heart of defence.

The likes of Jonny Howson, Marc Bola, Anfernee Dijksteel and Hayden Coulson also earned praise, as Neil Warnock’s side extended their unbeaten run to eight matches.

Here’s how some supporters reacted on social media:

@Matt_Rowney: Neil Warnock has made so many players individually miles better. Dijksteel, Fry, Saville, McNair are to name a few who look like different players. The only puzzle he needs to solve is how to get us scoring more goals but if we're keeping them out the other end then

@JonnyBullock1: What a performance from the Boro! Nathan Wood... superb

@THEREALBORO: Hats off to Warnock, his players and staff. Each and everyone of them is buying into his own ideas and giving absolutely everything for the cause. We haven't spent big books but NW has each and everyone of them playing and believing in one another great to see

@DannyTaylorDT: Another unreal performance and deserved win, Nathan Wood unbelievable, what a manager we’ve got

@MikeDales: Fully deserved win. Howson was MoM but special mention should go to Tav, Coulson, Bola & Dijksteel who had really good games.

@BoroCollector: Plenty of positives again. Another 3 points. Bola and Coulson linked up play in the second half down that left hand side. Nathan Wood didn’t put a foot wrong on his first league start. McNair, Saville and Dijksteel were solid again! Neymarv on the score sheet

@BenHall20: Nathan Wood was top class

@LewisThompson7: Highlight was Nathan Wood celebrating like we had won the league, he deserves to celebrate however he wants, he was outstanding! No wonder Warnock wasn't bothered about CBs at the end of the transfer window

@MichaelTG91: Nathan Wood was incredible today. Absolutely phenomenal. 10 from 12 in a difficult period.
