The Teessiders have been tracking Bristol City frontman Famara Diedhiou over the last few weeks, yet the 28-year-old looks likely to stay at Ashton Gate.

Diedhiou will be out of contract at the end of the season but the Robins are willing to risk losing him for free in the summer.

There was also talk of Britt Assombalonga moving to City before the deadline, with the Boro captain’s contract set to expire in a less than six months time.

Yet according to reports in Bristol, the Robins aren’t pursuing a deal for Assombalonga and are expecting to keep Diedhiou, who they would struggle to replace at such a late stage in the window.

Boro had also been linked with a move for Cardiff striker Robert Glatzel, a player who manager Neil Warnock signed when he was in charge of the Bluebirds.

Yet, according to Wales Online, Glatzel, 27, is set to join Bundesliga club Mainz on loan for the rest of the season and has travelled to Germany for a medical.

Warnock said at the weekend he wanted to sign another attacking player before the end of the transfer window.

The Teessiders could make a late move for former Cardiff winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, who is a free agent after his contract in South Wales was terminated in September.

Mendez-Laing is said to be keen on the move and the chance to link up with Warnock again.

As the player is a free agent, a deal could be completed after the deadline.
