Warnock is hopeful he can make another few additions next month, while first-team duo Jonny Howson and Ashley Fletcher are set to return from injury in the new year.

Due to the financial restraints caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, any signings Boro make are likely to be loan deals rather than permanent.

When asked by the Mail if Boro are targeting loan signings, Warnock said: “I think so, that’s what we’ve been concentrating on. They are the ones we are down the line with a couple.

“You have to talk to Premier League managers. I spoke to one yesterday but they want to wait until the end of the window before they decide in case they get any other injuries and you can’t blame them.”

One player who has been on Boro’s radar is Everton wideman Yannick Bolasie.

The 31-year-old was close to signing for the Teessiders in October but a deal wasn’t completed in time.

When asked if Bolasie remains a target, Warnock replied: “He's one of the names mentioned. We are looking for a wide player who can contribute with some goals.

“I know him from my Palace days, I wouldn't write him off but I wouldn't say he'll definitely be here.”

Bolasie recently told The Beautiful Game Podcast he is assessing his long-term plans and may wait to see if he can join a Premier League club in January.

When asked about those comments, Warnock joked: “I was going to wait because I haven't signed a long contract so I was going to wait to see if there's Premier League interest!

“With podcasts and things, you have to talk for the sake of talking at times.

“I won't worry about any player, what will be will be. If I have to go with the lads I've got I will.”

Warnock also said he hasn’t been made aware of any enquiries for any Boro players.

“I told a Premier League manager to keep away until I’ve retired,” Warnock added.

“You can never say never with the money that’s batted around nowadays but I hope not because I want my best team.”
