The 31-year-old wideman was close to joining Boro on loan in October but a deal wasn’t completed in time.

It was claimed this week the Teessiders were keen to revive the deal, yet Warnock says Boro have been looking at other targets.

“It’s news to me I didn’t know it was on,” said Warnock when asked about recent reports. “We’ve not spoken for weeks, Yannick and myself.

“I read a few other things as well about players I’d never even heard of, I’m sure the recruitment guys will have.”

Warnock has admitted Boro are unlikely to sign another striker this month but remains confident the club can bring in another winger.

Ashley Fletcher’s return from injury will also be a welcome boost as Warnock looks to bolster his attacking options.

“Striker-wise we missed out on one last week but that’s how it is,” added the Boro boss.

“Ashley Fletcher is stepping up his training and I’m optimistic about him in the next fortnight which will be like signing a player. We are still looking at wide players.

"I thought on Saturday if we had two good attacking forward wide players we'd have won the game.

"George (Friend) wasn't put under any pressure, Tav (Marcus Tavernier) was disappointing in the first half.

"If we have a natural wide player who is used to getting the ball and having a go at people I think we'd do a lot better.

"I will bring someone in before the deadline in the wide positions."
