The 31-year-old, who almost joined Boro in October, has moved to the Riverside on loan until the end of the season after turning down interest from Turkey.

Bolasie has plenty of Premier League experience and worked with Warnock at Crystal Palace before moving to Everton in 2018.

“I’ve known Yannick for many years,” Warnock told Boro’s website. “I asked him if he could help us out until the end of the season and get some fitness in at the same time.

“We can’t expect wonders but he’s a good lad and he can play different positions for me. He’ll be good in the dressing room and it’s a big boost for us.”

Bolasie will be available for Boro’s trip to league leaders Norwich this weekend but is unlikely to start the game as he gets up to speed.

Warnock is hopeful the Teessiders can make a few more signings before next week’s transfer deadline and is keen to sign another defender who can provide competition at full-back for Anfernee Dijksteel and Marc Bola.

"I would like another defender if I’m honest, someone who can fill in for Dijksteel, an out-and-out full-back,” said Warnock after Boro’s defeat by Rotherham.

"We’re just looking at three or four players really as things have changed really.”
