The result meant Boro finished 10th in the Championship table, an improvement on the previous campaign when they ended up in 17th.

Yet there was clearly a sense of what could have been as Boro’s form dropped off significantly in the second half of the season, leaving them 13 points off the play-off places.

Here’s how some Boro fans reacted to the result.

@Smithy_MFC84: A dire end to what has ultimately been a bang average season. We’d have taken this position after last season, but what I can’t reconcile with is the evident lack of effort and application this last couple of months on the whole. Warnock’s got a real job on his hands

@tom_mcgarry17: It is finally over

@ADF86: Bad result but let's not lose our heads here, we've improved a lot from last season and hopefully we can build to next season

@danpatton__: Think some people are forgetting how good of a season we’ve had

@SteveYambo: Disappointing end to a disappointing season. Thank God that it's over. Some major changes are needed, and, like every Boro fan, have absolutely no confidence in our recruitment team to get decent players in.

@JoshMcCann142: Not one shot on target against bottom of the league, saying Warnock has his work cut out in the summer is an understatement

@SuperSquand: Rubbish all over the pitch today. But today I’m more gutted to see Rotherham go down and not Derby.

@noblec83: Absolutely embarrassing, last game of season or not

@riverside221: 8 points from a possible 27 is a poor return at the business end of the season. Let’s hope @Boro and Warnock have a great Summer and are ready for the start of next season. Top 6 has to be the target (at least).

@craigylilo: The way this season has fizzled out has been ridiculous. A massive clear out needed after today!

@smells66: Poor quality game, I foolishly expected more from Boro. We look like a team of individuals and not a team willing to support, drive each other on. Warnock needs to clear serial underperformers out of our club.
